Friends with good hearts…

Hi, friends. I’ve just been ruminating on the fact that so many¬†good-hearted, well-intentioned people I know (and care about)¬†have bought into the notion that their goodness and salvation depends upon the Christian mythology. It makes me so sad.

  1. I know what you mean, FSM. I used to be one of those people. I remember for years being terrified of punishment in hell. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized that there was no hell, and no need of salvation. All there is is to make the most of the life we have. But I think you are suggesting that people overly vested in Christian mythology are missing out on life, and you are right. Not only do they miss out on many positive experiences; they also suffer as a result of their beliefs. We hear much about the comfort that religion provides, but there is also an awful lot of mental anguish associated with it, at least for some people, as was the case with me.

And humans don’t need god to be good, nor does their inherent value stem from him.
